Well pool comrades (no political affiliation intended) the 2007-2008 NFL season is upon us! First game in a meeting between the Saints and the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Indianapolis Colts on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6.

If I listen to Steve Twomey, the New England Patriots should dominate the regular season - may as well give them the trophy now (yeah right). Some experts are predicting at least 11 wins. Twomey’s Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, will meet in Indianapolis on Nov. 4 in what should be one of the early highlights of the 2007 NFL season – Stevie…you’ve got a side-bet on this one.

Deacon MillerCongrats to the play-off winners - Keith for last week's win and Mr. Miller for the week before. Unfortunately, news of Mr. Miller's win got back to his church and as the attached picture shows he had a bit of explaining to do! But never one for a loss of words the crafty PR veteran had the congregation eating out of his hands before long as he somehow linked the virtues of football to the struggles of Christian life. So convincing was Miller that next year we may be inundated with requests from the "flock" to join our little gang. I say the more the merrier!

One has to think about what is happenning with todays atheletes. There seem to be as many arrests as any thing else in todays world. Tank Johnson, the Bears defensive tackel has been arrested three times this year for major offenses; the Bengals have as many players arrested this year as wins (8)! Yet, do we see people suspended for any length of time, lose substantial amounts of money - no.

Steve TwomeyFor all of you who don't know by this, Twomey has won the pool yet again this season. This is now the 3rd time and this win is a rollover - double pot to boot! All in all, the Twomey's - Steve & Jason - have won 6 times. In the case of Jason, I know it's intelligence at work, but in the case of his father - apparently it's just dumb luck. It was very ironic that the one time in the season that I didn't pick Indianapolis, was the most crucial time because, had I picked Indianapolis, I would have tied with Twomey the Elder.

While we all look for "that game" every week that we think no one else will pick and put us over the top, Mr. Lindo's try this week achieved a new level of humor. Two of us, myself and Mr. SUmmers picked Tenn last week which Mr. Lindo could not fathom, so he goes and picks Clevland last night, the only one to do so and gets killed. i WONDER IF HE IS SECRETLY ADVISING BUSH ON THE WAR STRATEGY!!??
